
Here are some of our recommendations...
• Visit one of the wineries famed for some of the countries best red and white wines.
• Witness the Lavender bloom that carpets the hillsides in early summer.
• Trek through some of the hills and beautiful villages, taking in the wonderful land/seascapes.
• Take a day trip the nearby Palenki Islands and enjoy the crystal calm waters.
• Eat at one of the Countries best restaurants, Macondo’s. Recently voted as one of the top 100 restaurants in the world. There are plenty of other great restaurants to visit.
• Hire a mountain bike (or bring your own) and take some of the old farmers trails. Enjoy the mountains, villages and stunning views of the Island by bicycle.
• Tantalise your taste buds with an ice cream whilst sat in the ancient square of Jelsa. (Dating back to Roman times).
• Visit the oldest municipal theatre in Europe (Renaissance). Located at the old Arsenal in Hvar main square. Hvar’s theatre (and Arsenal) is one of the first municipal theatres in Europe. It was founded in 1612. Erected on the ancient Arsenal (a space used for repairing of galleons, and a storage of various seafaring tools). The theatre’s exterior is mostly preserved in its original form. The interior architectonics is from the 19th century.
• Wonder around the ancient streets of the hilltop village of Vrsnik. Where you will find one of the prettiest chapels on the Island. With views overlooking Jelsa and the nearby vineyards.
• Snorkel the crystal clear blue waters of one of the hundreds of coves dotted around the island. Visiting untouched lagoons around Hvar plays a great role in enjoying your holidays. These can be reached by car, bicycle, or inspiring walks through the Mediterranean landscape. You can swim in almost every lagoon, which usually has restaurant or refreshment corner of some kind.
• Take a day trip to the nearby Island of Korcula.
• Hire a boat and discover one of dozens of nearby islands, or cruise around the island in pursuit of one of the hundreds of private secluded coves dotted around the Island of Hvar.
• Scuba diving at one of several dive centres on the Island. Enlist on various courses depending on your own ability. (Ask at the Amphora Hotel at HVAR town)
• Take a sea fishing trip on one of several boats where you will be supplied with equipment and a good meal.
• Take a day trip to Dubrovnik by ferry from one of the Islands Ferry ports (The ferry trip from HVAR to Dubrovnik is reputed to be one of the finest in Europe according to Lonely Planet)
• Visit The Franciscan monastery that was founded in 1461. Within the calm and silence of the monastery you can enjoy in monastery’s rich museum, among which the collection of old masters is exceptional.
• Visit The Fortica (Španjola) fortress that was built above old city in the mid 16th century. Its architecture and military history will thrill you as much as the view of the city of Hvar and surrounding islands.
• Hvar’s cathedral, together with Bishop’s palace, encloses the east side of the biggest square in Dalmatia - Hvar’s Pjaca (St. Stephen’s sq.). The cathedral is dedicated to St. Stephen, the Pope and martyr, patron of dioceses and city of Hvar. Hvar’s cathedral is also the parish centre.
• Enjoy a sumptuous cocktail and enjoy the sophisticated atmosphere of the suave “Plus Café” overlooking the port of HVAR.
